First settled in 1637, and officially incorporated in 1639, Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod. Located on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal, the majority of its population and land mass is on the southerly side of the canal. Sandwich is a mostly residential community with a year round population considerably smaller than during the warm summer.
